JIMFORMATION LITE

The 1960s (Without Beatles and Stones)

trapezemusic:

My father has a theory about rock music: “If you’re 40 and it doesn’t make you crazy, it isn’t rock ‘n’ roll.”

For the most part, I agree with him, and it troubles me that someone isn’t making music that pisses me off, something that pushes the envelope of my generation. Maybe it’s an indication that we’ve gone so far that nothing surprises us any more.

These artists always stopped my heart when I heard them on my little black AM transistor radio during the ’60s. And they drove my father crazy.

  1. The Animals
  2. James Brown
  3. The Zombies
  4. The Velvet Underground
  5. Love
  6. Sly & The Family Stone
  7. Big Brother & The Holding Company
  8. Aretha Franklin
  9. Jefferson Airplane
  10. Procol Harum

I’m a half-generation younger than you. My dad turned me on to some of the music of my youth. Specifically, Rick Wakeman.

I was raised by my grandparents. And even my Nan wasn’t cringing at the stuff I was cringing at: Round and Round.
